Kelp

Laminaria Digitata

Algin derived from kelp serve as a stabilizing agent in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Algins are also demulcents (agents that sooth mucous membranes, such as those lining the respiratory tract) and emollients (skin-softening agents). Kelp preparations such as sodium alginate prevent the absorption of radioactive strontium from atomic fallout.
