Convallaria Majalis

Popular for wedding bouquets, the flowers are also an ingredient of perfumes. All parts of the plant are used in various preparation, for the treatment of heart disease. Pharmacological studies prove that the plant does have cardiotonic (heart strengthening) properties. Investigations do not bear out claims that it is an expectorant and emmenagogue (inducing menstruation).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified the plant as poisonous.
