Yellow Jessamine

Gelsemium Sempervirens

Yellow jessamine contains substances that depress the central nervous system, making it effective as a sedative, painkiller, and antispasmodic. It was once listed in the U.S. Pharmacopeia, but because even small doses can have dire consequences, it is no longer used medicinally.

All parts of yellow jessamine contain toxic alkaloids that can cause paralysis and death, and none must be taken internally.
