American Mistletoe

Phoradendron Flavescens

American mistletoe has been used in folk medicine as an antihypertensive and a sedative; research suggests that the plant may have sedative effects. While the closely related European mistletoe (Viscum Album) has been used in Europe for senturies to treat high blood pressure, the only experimental data available shows that American mistletoe actually raises blood pressure.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration lists this plant as "unsafe."
